Das Afro Asiatische Institut Projekt „Decolonizing Salzburg“ möchte rassistische, koloniale und imperiale Vergangenheiten und ihre Kontinuitäten in Stadt und Land Salzburg thematisieren, Wissen darüber zusammentragen und vernetzen sowie Impulse für Dekolonisierungsprozesse geben.

Salzburg aus einer anderen Perspektive entdecken: Der Decolonizing Salzburg City Walk macht koloniale Spuren und rassistische Kontinuitäten im Stadtraum sichtbar und lädt dazu ein, vertraute Orte neu zu betrachten.

An verschiedenen Stationen beschäftigen wir uns mit der Frage, wie Vorstellungen vom „Eigenen“ und „Fremden“ historisch entstanden sind, wie sie sich in Kunst, Kultur und Gesellschaft eingeschrieben haben und bis heute nachwirken. Dabei verbindet der Walk historische Ereignisse und lokale Geschichten mit aktuellen Fragen zu Rassismus, Repräsentation und gesellschaftlicher Vielfalt.

Kurze inhaltliche Impulse an den einzelnen Stationen schaffen Raum für Austausch, Diskussion und gemeinsame Reflexion. Der Stadtspaziergang möchte nicht nur wenig sichtbare Aspekte der Salzburger Geschichte zugänglich machen, sondern auch dazu anregen, über eine gerechtere und inklusivere Stadtgesellschaft nachzudenken.

Hinweis: Im Rahmen des Stadtspaziergangs werden Themen wie Rassismus, Kolonialismus, Diskriminierung und Gewaltgeschichte behandelt. Einige Inhalte können belastend oder emotional herausfordernd sein.

Auch wenn der Termin etwas kurzfristig ist, würden wir uns sehr freuen, wenn ihr gemeinsam mit uns weniger bekannte Seiten der Stadt Salzburg entdeckt und neue Perspektiven auf vertraute Orte gewinnt.

Light and Shadow in a Diverse City – Decolonizing Salzburg City Walk

„Decolonizing Salzburg“ is a project by the AAI, Afro-Asiatic Institute Salzburg with the aims to address racist, colonial, and imperial pasts and their continuities in the city and region of Salzburg, to gather and connect knowledge about these topics, and to provide impulses for decolonization processes.

Discover Salzburg from a different perspective: The Decolonizing Salzburg City Walk brings colonial traces and continuing legacies of racism in the urban landscape into view and invites us to take a fresh look at familiar places.

At different stops along the walk, we will explore how ideas of “us” and “others” developed historically, how they became embedded in art, culture and society, and how they continue to shape the present. The walk connects historical events and local stories with contemporary questions of racism, representation and social diversity.

Short inputs at each stop will provide space for exchange, discussion and collective reflection. The city walk aims not only to make lesser-known aspects of Salzburg’s history more visible, but also to encourage reflection on how we can contribute to a more just and inclusive urban society.
